The Yard at Waterworks Road is a thriving community of independent businesses, craftspeople and artists in the heart of Hastings.

 

This bustling, eccentric workspace is home to over fifty small business and grows and evolves with them. The collection of traditional, Victorian red brick buildings, oversized beach huts, converted stable blocks (with the original cobbled floors, of course!) and timber framed buildings, all slightly rough around the edges, forms this truly unique place. From dog groomers to cake makers, textile artists to a traditional joiner. If you can’t find what you want in The Yard, you’ll find someone who knows where you can get it. 
 
We focus on providing space for start up businesses, with the hope that they’ll outgrow us and move onto bigger and better things. Saying that, we’ve got people who have been in here for twenty five years and still don’t want to leave - we’re never sure if that’s a good or a bad thing.

A strong sense of community is at the heart of The Yard. People often share projects, either recommending other businesses within The Yard, or employing their services directly. There’s always someone to bounce an idea off or share a problem with, the breadth of knowledge within The Yard is genuinely astounding. It is a joy to know that it encourages people to be creative and cultivate ideas that might otherwise be dismissed.

People make their spaces their own, which is one of the things that makes The Yard so special. Where else would a traditional working forge be transformed into a specialist antiques restorer within a month?

It would be impractical to list all the different businesses that have been at The Yard over the past twenty five years, but each has been as different as it’s possible to be and have made their space suit them perfectly.
